Health Information Management and Information Technology Careers Focus of MxCC Event on Nov. 16

Information Technology (IT) and Health Information Management (HIM) careers will take center stage at an upcoming Network Event at Middlesex Community College.  Professionals from Microsoft, CT HIMA, Left Brain Games, Apex Technology Group, Verizon Wireless, The Computer Company, Community Health Center, Inc, Travelers Insurance Company, and many others will be on-hand to talk to students and community members about career opportunities, job search skills, and MxCC’s HIM and IT degree and certificate programs.  The Network Event will be held Monday, November 16 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the pavilion and student lounge in Founders Hall on the MxCC campus at 100 Training Hill Road in Middletown.  Free parking and handicapped access are available.

Registration for The Network Event is preferred but walk-ins are welcome.  Contact Cheryl Putnam at 860-343-5736 or cputnam@mxcc.edu to register; or contact Professor Donna Hylton at 860-343-5774 or dhylton@mxcc.edu with questions.

Joshua Drew, senior technical evangelist, Microsoft Corporation, and Liz Taylor, past president of the CT Health Information Management Association, will speak during the event, sharing practical career advice and demonstrating innovative technology.

This is the second year that MxCC’s Computer Club joined with the Health and Life Science Career Initiatives (HL-SCI) team to present this combined career event.  Since the IT and HIM career fields are so closely aligned, it has proven to be a successful partnership for students and companies alike.

“It is so wonderful to see so many local IT and HIM professionals support our students, who are future members of the technology industry,” said Donna Hylton, Computer Club advisor and MxCC professor and Program Coordinator of HIM, Computer Information Technology, and Management Information Systems.  “This is one of the most important events that connects students with employers, providing a casual venue to network, make introductions, and better explore ways to launch a successful IT career.”
